Galileo Was Wrong, the Church Was Right
First Annual Catholic Conference on Geocentrism
"They Know It But They're Hiding It"
Galileo Was Wrong is a detailed and comprehensive treatment of the scientific evidence supporting Geocentrism, the academic belief that the Earth is immobile in the center of the universe. Garnering scientific information from physics, astrophysics, astronomy and other sciences, Galileo Was Wrong shows that the debate between Galileo and the Catholic Church was much more than a difference of opinion about the interpretation of Scripture.
Scientific evidence available to us within the last 100 years that was not available during Galileo's confrontation shows that the Church's position on the immobility of the Earth is not only scientifically supportable, but it is the most stable model of the universe and the one which best answers all the evidence we see in the cosmos.

Texas Board of Ed: Textbooks Are Anti-Christian
Texas: Texas' State Board of Education - following a long history of throwing itself into "culture war" issues - is set to vote Friday on a resolution calling on textbook publishers to limit what they print about Islam in world history books.
The resolution cites world history books no longer used in Texas schools that it says devoted more lines of text to Islamic beliefs and practices than Christian beliefs and practices.
Board member Pat Hardy, R-Fort Worth, suggested the issue may be moot because none of the books cited are still being used in Texas, having been replaced in 2003, and said they "might want to go back and get newer copies of the books."

LDS Seminary Teacher Sentenced
Utah: The former seminary principal who developed a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student was sentenced to prison Monday morning.
Michael J. Pratt, 38, was ordered to serve five years to life in the Utah State Prison after previously pleading guilty to two counts of object rape, forcible sodomy and forcible sex abuse. The three first-degree felonies and one second-degree felony will be served concurrently.
Pratt was arrested July 9, 2009, after police say he repeatedly checked a 16-year-old high school student out of class without her parents' permission, and then drove her around the county for sexual rendezvous.
The girl, now 18, told the Deseret News last year that she had fallen in love with Pratt as he groomed her and concocted elaborate plans for their future together. He vowed they would run away and get married when she turned 18, despite the fact that Pratt is married and has four children — one born just weeks ago.
Yet Monday, she told him a strong voice: "Today I want to make it clear to you, I am no longer blinded by your craftiness, my eyes are wide open," she said. "I am no longer your puppet, your toy, your game."

Pennsylvania: A Pennsylvania pastor whose first wife died under suspicious circumstances was charged Monday with killing his second wife and staging a car accident to cover it up. The accusations have prompted police to re-examine the first wife's death.
Arthur Burton Schirmer, 62, was arraigned Monday in Tannersville on criminal homicide and evidence-tampering charges in the 2008 death of his 56-year-old wife Betty.
Betty Schirmer's death was initially ruled an accident, but police said they reopened the investigation after the November 2008 suicide of a man whose wife was having an affair with Arthur Schirmer.

Family Sues Church For Harboring A Pedophile
California: The family of a 14-year-old Loomis girl molested by a youth pastor at Crossroads Community Church in Rocklin are now suing him and the church for allowing the abuse to occur.
The complaint filed earlier this month seeks punitive damages for sexual abuse of a child, sexual battery, gross negligence, breach of fiduciary duty. They also want reimbursement for medical care and lost earnings. In April, Jeffery Waisner, 33 of Lincoln, was convicted of lewd and lascivious acts with a child stemming from a nearly six-month affair with the girl who was a part of his youth group.

The attorney for the family alleges the national church covered up problems of sexual abuse with minors by appointed leaders and engaged in a systematic pattern, which included compiling a secret archival file regarding sexual abuse by other church leaders in other states. The complaint alleges, the governing body of the church was harboring alleged predator pedophiles who would continue to sexually molest children using their leadership position to gain access to the victims.

Priests' Personnel Files Still Under Wraps
California: Three years after Los Angeles Archdiocese agreed to the largest priest abuse settlement in U.S. history, a key element of that agreement — public release of accused priests' personnel files — remains unfulfilled with no clear outlook on when the documents may be disclosed.
The lawyer who represents priests accused of abuse has insisted all along that any document involving their personnel records is shielded by state and federal privacy laws and has fought release at each step. And the archdiocese has shown little interest in speeding the process.
"It's long, tedious job with lots of meticulous tasks," said J. Michael Hennigan, an attorney representing the archdiocese. "We move forward as fast as we move forward."

Psychic Gets 18 Months For Theft
Florida: A professed Gypsy psychic who swindled people out of more than $500,000 — promising to rid the money of demons — will spend 18 months in prison.
Gina Marie Marks, 37, was already serving 18 months of probation for similar charges when she was arrested in October. On Wednesday, Marks pleaded guilty to grand theft and two counts of organized fraud, and admitted to violating her probation. She also handed over a $400,000 check to partially repay her victims.
In May 2009, Marks pleaded no contest to grand theft, repaid $54,000 and was sentenced to 18 months probation for telling five clients to give her cash that she would return after she cleansed it of demons. The money was never returned.

She told a client that an ex-boyfriend's new lover had placed a curse on the client. One way to lift the curse was to give Marks more than $30,000. Marks also duped a Coconut Grove woman into giving her thousands of dollars in gift cards, which would prevent the woman's father from suffering a fatal heart attack.
