Mormon Ponzi Scheme
Utah: FBI agents closed a prominent real estate management business here Thursday and began removing documents pertaining to the investigation of what the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission calls a “$220 million Ponzi scheme.”
The SEC claims Wendell and Allen Jacobson used their LDS Church membership to gain the trust of investors.
A statement by the SEC says Jacobson, and his son Allen, 33, “offer investors the opportunity to share ownership of large apartment communities in eight states," but instead "are merely pooling the money raised from investors into large bank accounts from which they are siphoning money to pay family expenses and the operating expenses of their various companies.”

The father and son “raised more than $220 million from approximately 225 investors through a complex web of entities under the umbrella of Management Solutions, Inc.,” the SEC alleges.

Rampant Bestiality In The Military
A great article from our friends @ defshepherd
Last week, the US Senate voted to repeal Article 125 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. The repeal was part of a larger piece of legislation, the National Defense Authorization Act. Article 125 is an archaic statute which bars troops from engaging in consensual sodomy, and its repeal was tacked on to the defense act. However, since the article defines sodomy as "unnatural carnal copulation with another person of the same or opposite sex or with an animal," the nutjobs read this as the military condoning bestiality. Here's a reporter asking White House press secretary Jay Carney if the president approves or disapproves of sex with animals:
Then, Michelle Bachmann and Glenn Beck watched that video together on Beck's show.
And of course Bryan Fischer, of the American Family Association, had to add his two cents:

Public School Holds Christian Rally
A public school in South Carolina flagrantly violated the Constitution recently by holding a christian themed assembly for students, on school property, during school hours.
On Sept. 1 this year, New Heights Middle School officials held an evangelical revival assembly intended to 'save' students by encouraging them to accept Jesus Christ into their hearts. The school-day assembly featured a minister who delivered a sermon, a Christian rapper (known as 'B-SHOC'), and church members who prayed with students. Students were urged to sign a pledge dedicating themselves to Christ.

Is Tim Tebow Performing Miracles?
By Stephen Prothero
As anyone who has visited Dallas or Atlanta on any recent weekend can attest, America’s two great religions are Christianity and football. In recent weeks, these two great faiths have come together in Tim Tebow, the new starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos and America’s latest merger of faith in Jesus and faith in the Almighty Touchdown.
In his book “Faith and Belief,” the Religious Studies scholar Wilfred Cantwell Smith describes how the notion of “faith” changed over the centuries from something like “trust” to its modern-day meaning of “belief in the unbelievable.”

And that, it seems to me, is what we are witnessing with Tebow.
It is simply not believable that a quarterback who cannot throw would turn a team from a 1-4 also-ran to a 6-5 playoff contender. But Tebow has done that, in part by running and in part, well, by faith.

Finn "had reasonable cause to suspect a child may be subjected to abuse due to previous knowledge of concerns about Father Ratigan and children," Peters-Baker told reporters. That reasonable cause included the discovery of hundreds of photographs on the priest's laptop, "including a child's naked vagina, upskirt images and images focused on the crotch area and violations of restrictions that were placed on Father Ratigan."

Woman To Be Lashed For Driving
Saudi Arabia: A court in Saudi Arabia has sentenced a woman to 10 lashes for breaking the country's ban on female drivers. The woman, identified as Shaima Ghassaniya, was found guilty of driving in Jeddah in July.
News of the sentencing comes two days after Saudi King Abdullah announced that the kingdom’s women would have the right to vote and run in local elections — for the first time — in 2015

Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world to prevent women — Saudi and foreign alike — from driving. Though there is no written law keeping women from driving, religious rulings enforced by the police have the same effect as a ban. Women tend to rely on live-in drivers or male relatives for transportation.

Christian Heckler
A heckler called President Obama “the Antichrist” at a fundraiser in Los Angeles on Monday night before security dragged the man out.
“The end of ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ is the signature achievement of our time,” master of ceremonies Jesse Tyler Ferguson told the president and the crowd.
That’s when a bearded man standing in the front row near the stage began shouting.

The Rescheduled Rapture Is Approaching
Harold Camping, who predicted that 200 million Christians would be taken to heaven on May 21st, said that he felt so terrible when his doomsday message did not come true that he left home and took refuge in a motel with his wife. His independent ministry, Family Radio International, spent millions — some of it from donations made by followers — on more than 5,000 billboards and 20 recreational vehicles plastered with the Judgment Day message.
Harold Camping revised his apocalyptic prophecy, saying he was off by five months and the Earth actually will be obliterated on Oct. 21.
Mark your calendars and make arrangements for your pets. The end is near.

The Rain That Never Fell
Rick Perry appeared at Liberty University on September 14 and discussed the ways in which he feels his god has communicated with him.
"On the fifth day of August 1978 it rained 30 inches in 24 hours"
According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the total precipitation that day for Abilene, one hour away from Paint Creek and the closest recording point, was 0.01 inches. In fact, the record rainfall for one day in Abilene is just 6.30 inches, and 37.22 inches is the record for an entire year.
The fires currently burning in Texas must be a message to "get out now...and go to Washington".

The GOP Candidates On Climate Change And Evolution
Jon Huntsman's recent tweet on science might not stand out in some crowds: "I believe in evolution and trust scientists on global warming. Call me crazy," the former Utah governor wrote on Aug. 18. But among his fellow contenders for the Republican presidential nomination, Huntsman's declaration in support of both evolution and human-caused global warming made him an outlier. We compiled the Republican candidates' recent statements on climate change and evolution, and for comparison, included the consensus view among mainstream scientists and educators.

Christian Warrior Arrested
Oregon: The 24-year-old man being held in last year’s firebombing of an Oregon mosque ranted about Muslims and referred to himself as a “Christian warrior”.
Cody Crawford was arrested Wednesday night in the Nov. 28 firebombing in Corvallis. He was indicted on charges of damaging religious property for racial reasons, which is a hate crime, and using fire to commit a felony.
Court documents show that three weeks after the mosque firebombing, in unrelated encounters with police, Crawford ranted about Muslims, said Christians are capable of jihad and told an officer he resembled President Barack Obama.

Cleric Breaks 7-Year-Old’s Leg
Pakistan: According to residents of Vehari’s Ghara Mor village, a local prayer leader tortured a seven-year-old student for forgetting the words to a surah.
Busti Sheikhan Wali resident Muhammad Mumtaz’s son Muhammad Adnan, 7, was memorizing the Quran at a mosque. On Friday, several of Adnan’s class mates said that he kept forgetting one verse of a surah and cleric Muhammad Latif beat him with a stick. “He then hung the boy upside down from a tree and beat him while screaming at him to recite the verses properly,” said Mansoor Shah, who was also present at the mosque.
Adnan’s father was informed of the incident and came to the Vehari DHQ hospital, where doctors told him that Adnan’s leg was broken. “The boy has suffered severe bruises and some internal injuries. His left leg has been broken and we cannot re-set the bones,” said Dr Altaf Momin.

Mennonite Serial Rape Trial
Bolivia: Katarina Wall remembers little about the worst night of her life. She recalls waking up in her bed, seeing a man on top of her and feeling her arms too heavy to lift in resistance. The next thing she knew, it was morning — but her pajamas were torn.
But the nightmare appears to be all too real. Wall is among 130 women and girls of the Mennonite colony in Manitoba Colony, who claim that from 2005 to '09, the same cloudy horror visited them. In a criminal trial now under way in nearby Santa Cruz, Peter Weiber, 48, a Mennonite veterinarian, is accused of transforming a chemical meant to anesthetize cows into a spray to be used on humans. For four years, Weiber and eight other Mennonite men allegedly sprayed the chemical through bedroom windows in Manitoba at night, sedating entire families and raping the females.

The formal indictments list victims ages 8 to 60 years old, including one who is mentally retarded and another who was pregnant and sent into premature labor after allegedly being raped by one of the men — her brother.

Perry Claims Texas Schools Teach Creationism
New Hampshire: Texas Gov. Rick Perry told a child questioner today that Texas public schools teach creationism alongside evolution — a statement that state education experts are refuting in varying degrees.
“No, it is not true," said Kathy Miller, president of the Texas Freedom Network. "Texas science standards do not call for teaching creationism in the classroom."
David Bradley, a social conservative member of the State Board of Education, said he hadn't heard the governor's comments. But when asked if Texas schools teach creationism alongside evolution, Bradley responded: "Not specifically."

Pastor Found Guilty Of Medicare Fraud
California: On Tuesday, a jury found Pastor Christopher Iruke, his wife and an employee who worked for the couple guilty of healthcare fraud and conspiracy to commit fraud in a scheme that involved more than $14 million in illegitimate Medicare claims.
Authorities said Iruke and associates often supplied power wheelchairs to Medicare patients perfectly capable of walking on their own —including one who did jumping jacks to show agents he never needed one. Also among the patients Iruke and his associates filed reimbursement claims for were two people who were deceased, according to court papers.

After purchasing the wheelchairs at about $900 wholesale and paying for the prescriptions, he pocketed the remainder of about $6,000 in taxpayer money he received as Medicare reimbursements, according to court documents. In all, Iruke's companies filed for $14.2 million in claims and received about $6.6 million in reimbursements.
